My godmother and I explored the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA).
Two exhibits in particular that will interest BMC students:
Thomas Eakins: Photographer, through January 29, 2017
Eakins was born in Philadelphia and served as a member of the faculty of the PAFA. As a faculty member, he championed equal access for women in the fields of art and anatomy education. The exhibit displays not only his photographs but also his paintings and reliefs.
Women’s Work (this is part of the main collection)
This gallery raises questions about women’s work and its significance through paintings of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Student admission is $12
Location: Standing at Dilworth Park (the park in front of City Hall) face the LOVE statue. Walk straight for a couple of blocks. You can’t miss the colossal paint brush at the entrance.
